snowplow with the words "Name that snowplow"

Did you know? Our Urban and Rural Roads crew manages 681 lane kilometers of roads? That's the same as driving the length of Austria, from Toronto to Montreal, or from Port Hope to Sudbury. Normally, that’s a 7-8 hour drive at 90-100 km/h. But now imagine crawling along in snowy, icy conditions while plowing and salting... oh, and sometimes having to go over the same stretch multiple times if the snow doesn’t stop!

This winter, our snowplows (and their skilled operators) will be out in all conditions to keep Port Hope safe and moving. Let’s give these winter heroes the spotlight they deserve!

With cold weather and snow just around the corner, we want your help naming two of our snowplows! Submissions are open until September 24. Our road crews will pick the top 10 names, and final voting will run October 8 to 29, so check back to cast your vote.

The winning entries will get bragging rights and a photo opportunity with their named plow.

Snow Clearing Facts:

The Name that Plow initiative is all in good fun, but snow clearing in Port Hope is serious business. With each upcoming winter weather event, our road crews are responsible for clearing approximately 681 kilometres of roadway. The Municipality is able to accomplish this with over 11 pieces of plowing equipment.
