Thank you for providing your feedback on the concept plan. At the August 1, 2023, Committee of the Whole Meeting, staff provided an overview of this proposed concept plan. Council received this plan as information. Work on this revitalization is planned in a staged multi-year approach.
Background
We are reviewing the parkland at King’s Field (Victoria St. South), along with a review of amenities in other nearby parks. In consultation with staff, a working group of the Parks, Recreation and Culture Advisory Committee, and through review of previous community surveys results, we have established a concept plan for this park. With efforts to maximize use, provide unique opportunities for the neighbourhood, and investment in parks and trees, the concept plan is anticipated to be implemented in the near-, mid- and long-term future. In Spring 2023, a concept was shared with the community, revised by the PRC Advisory Committee, and shared with Municipal Council.

Summer 2024 Update: The baseball backstop has been removed and planting of seed has occurred. Please allow the seed to grow. Plans to proceed with tree planting along a portion of the fence, trail connection from Corbett St to the parking lot and near term parking lot upgrades are in the works.
Scope of work (updated):
Near-term
- A connecting path to Corbett St. sidewalk and a multipurpose pathway to Ridout St. (partially complete, planned for 2024)
- Removal of the ball diamond and back stop. This area is now too small to safely maintain a sports field. The Municipality intends to upgrade a small community diamond at Lions Park (Complete)
- Investing in trees: enhanced plantings of deciduous trees focusing on west side/fence line of park (some planting planned for 2024)
- Ongoing inspection and protection of the existing oak tree, which is a Tree of Distinction (continues)
- Additional park benches and upgrades to the park sign, including a history of the area (planned for 2024)
- Installation of a loop path
Mid-term
- Improvements to Victoria St. South street scape are currently under review as part of the Victoria St. South reconstruction project. Upgrades include curb, realigning of parking to Sullivan St. for safe pedestrian and traffic access, and more trees when street work is complete.
- Installation of a rain garden along Victoria St. South
- Installation of a small gazebo
- Installation of a community basketball court
- Consideration for the implementation of a community raised garden bed program
Long-term
- Installation of a new water pumping station (Requires further study and engagement through the Works and Engineering Department)
A special thank you to David Noble DND Designs for assisting in the conceptual planning of this park and Jenny Duda who completed the artistic illustration of the concept design.
