We are proposing changes to our current parking regulation (Traffic and Parking By-law 39-2008) in response to ongoing operational challenges and community concerns related to on-street parking during winter conditions. Each winter, we receive many complaints, as snowplows often have to drive around parked vehicles during snow clearing operations. This often leads to:

  • Large piles of snow being pushed into driveways and sometimes against homes or windows
  • Accessibility challenges for seniors and people with limited mobility
  • Narrow streets that make snowplowing unsafe and can cause plowing on that street to be delayed or missed altogether
  • Delays for emergency vehicles trying to navigate the streets
  • Overall safety concerns for pedestrians and drivers

Updating the rules surrounding street parking in the new Draft Parking By-law is one of the main tools we plan to use to fix these problems.
