Thank you!
At the November 5, 2024 Council Meeting, Council approved the updated Property Standards By-law that relates to the administration and enforcement of Property Standards in the Municipality of Port Hope. Thank you for providing your feedback.
Background
In 2023, we completed a service delivery review of the Municipal Law Enforcement division. One of the recommendations from this review was to evaluate old By-laws to ensure best practices and industry standards are being followed.
After reviewing the current Property Standards By-law, it was clear that there are several improvements required to ensure the proper maintenance and occupancy for all properties within the Municipality. In addition, several new sections have been added to the updated Property Standards By-law to address the following areas:
- Nuisance Lighting
- Shipping Containers
- Vacant/Damaged Buildings
- Fire Damaged Buildings
- Marijuana Grow Houses and Clandestine Drug Operations
- Designated Heritage Buildings*
*It is important to note that one of the most significant proposed changes is the addition of the 'Designated Heritage Buildings' section. These proposed changes have been shared with the Heritage Port Hope Advisory Committee and the Planning Division staff responsible for heritage planning related matters. This new section will help ensure the unique heritage features in our community are adequately maintained.
To learn more and get a fulsome look at the proposed changes. Please read the documents in the 'Important Documents' panel.
