Background

Toronto Road/Victoria Street South is a major arterial road in Port Hope that connects Downtown and residential streets to the 401. Historically, this has been a semi-urban roadway with residential development on the east and Penryn Park Estate and the Port Hope Golf and Country Club on the west.

Since the early 2000’s the AON/Mason Homes residential subdivision has been in development, increasing traffic in the area. As a result, improvements to the roadway and unground infrastructure is required. The anticipated project site will run from Fraser Street to Trafalgar Street. Improvements expected with this reconstruction:

Victoria Street South

  • Improved connection to Strachan Street, Ridout Street and Dorset Street West
  • Roughly 10m widening (to accommodate one lane of traffic in each direction and a cycling lane in each direction)
  • Addition of cycling lanes on both sides of the road
  • East sidewalk: replacement of existing sidewalk with an added extension to Trafalgar Street
  • West sidewalk: addition of a new sidewalk with an added with extension to Trafalgar Street (subject to change)
  • Upgrade or replacement of sanitary sewer mains, water mains, and storm mains

Toronto Road

  • Water main installation
  • Abandonment of old historic sanitary sewer main
