The Municipality of Port Hope owns the property at 41 Young Street. Currently, the property is identified as parkland in the Official Plan and is zoned as Open Space. However, Council has recognized a shortage of affordable housing in the community and has asked staff to explore whether this site could help meet that need.

The land was recently remediated through the Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI). With that work complete, this is a good time to begin talking with the community about possible future uses of the property. As this work moves forward, we are committed to open, honest, and meaningful engagement with residents because community input is an important part of any decisions that are made.

Residents are invited to attend the Open House to learn more about the proposal, ask questions, and share their perspectives before any decisions are made.

Feedback collected through this process will help staff develop future recommendations for Council. If changes to the Official Plan or Zoning By-law are proposed, a formal Statutory Public Meeting will be held as part of the application process. This meeting will provide another opportunity for residents to ask questions and share input. Details about the Statutory Public Meeting will be shared once the application process begins.
